The flag of Jamaica, most recently adopted on 6 August 1962, features a gold cross through the center. The triangles created by the cross are green on the top and bottom and black on the sides. The color symbolism is understood in the phrase Hardships there are, but the land is green and the sun shineth. Black depicts hardships overcome and to be overcome, gold stands for the natural wealth and beauty of sunlight, and green represents hope and agricultural resources.
